Types of Dental Fillings
Dental fillings can be made of different things. There are metal fillings made of gold and silver. Silver fillings are cheap, while gold fillings are expensive. Metal fillings last longer than other types, but they’re not the best for front cavities because they can be seen when people smile.
We have multiple tooth-colored options, including composite resin, porcelain, and ceramic. These come in shades of white that can match your teeth. Front cavities are almost always treated with tooth-colored fillings. Composite resin fillings are cheap and last five to ten years. Porcelain and ceramic fillings last longer but are more expensive. We’ll tell you the available options and our recommendations, but the final decision is yours.
Inserting Dental Fillings
Patient comfort is a priority, so the first step is to use local anesthesia to numb the affected area. Next, we’ll use our tools to clean the cavity and remove any infected tissues. We can’t place the filling in an infected area, or the cavity will keep growing. After cleaning, we’ll prepare the cavity with a specific gel.
The filling will then be placed and hardened via ultraviolet light. Patients can go home immediately after getting a filling. You can eat after going home, but it’s better to wait until the numbness is gone, so you don’t bite your tongue or lips. If you have any inquiries, call us.
